As Elon Musk’s largest companies, SpaceX and Tesla, shine in the spotlight, a new branch of his bold entrepreneurship is taking shape in the background. Starlink, Musk’s new satellite-internet ‘constellation’, offers an extremely ambitious approach to providing internet access internationally, unrestricted by geographical barriers. Through SpaceX, Elon Musk has already launched over 900 satellite probes and plans to launch thousands more to ensure the reliability and accessibility of his network. Through this orbital network, Musk hopes to provide better and more efficient internet access globally. He is proving the immense capabilities of his Space department on an international stage. As of March 2021, his satellite internet service costs $99 per month, more than nearly every other major internet provider. Despite the cost, those who buy Starlink access should soon realize that this bold system, like many of Elon Musk’s previous ventures, has the potential for unprecedented success.
